Should You DIY Your Business App or Hire a Pro?

Once you have decided to create a custom application for your business, one of your first questions will be how to bring it to life: should you program the app yourself, or should your hire a professional to do the work? There are benefits to going the DIY route, as well as some potential drawbacks.

Designing Your Own App

The foremost benefit of designing an app by yourself is that you have total control over the project and its end result. This is great if you have a strong vision for the application or are creating an app similar to an already existing one. Even if you have never designed an application before, there are lots of courses out there to teach you how to build an app, like Angular JS Javascript HTML, one of the most popular app development languages. That in mind, there is something to be said for having a professional take care of most of the heavy lifting programming-wise.

Hiring a Professional

The main advantage to be gained by hiring a pro like 3C Media Corp to design the app for you is that they have experience in overcoming the technical obstacles and pitfalls common in app development. A professional will also be able to help guide the scope of development, allowing you to stick to a realistic budget and/or timeline. While these things are nice, you should keep in mind that you’ll still need to be active in the development of the project to make sure that it aligns with your project vision. A professional will know how to program and design an app that works, but may not be aware of your project needs unless you explicitly provide them with that information. Essentially, when hiring a professional to develop your application you can rest assured that the project will be designed to a high standard, but you do forfeit some creative control in the process.

Making a Decision

There is no right or wrong way to go about developing an app, and each situation calls for a different approach. In general, if you have the time and energy to spare learning how to develop an app on your own it can be a very rewarding experience. However, if you need an application developed quickly or have specific project constraints, it may be best to entrust your vision to a professional app developer.
